After 2 weeks of relentless rain in Sydney, it appears that there is yet more in store for Sydney over the next week or so.
The large volumes of rain and high winds that have caused major flooding (1 in 1,000 year flooding) are travelling south, down from Queensland and the Northern NSW Coast, and are expected to hit Sydney tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday).
A few tips to ensure your home has the best chance of weathering the storm:
– clear out all gutters, rainwater heads and downpies of leaves and debris
– clear out all stormwater pits and drains of leaves, silt, debris etc. Make certain nothing is blocking them or their overflow points.
– make sure all stormwater pumps are working properly
– tie down or bring inside anything that might get blown around in high winds
– have some candles ready if the power goes out, as well as bottled water and some dry food.
– stay safely inside during the storm, and bring pets inside with you.
