without previous instance; never before known or experienced; unexampled or unparalleled: an unprecedented event.
With the year starting amid the most terrifying bushfires this country has ever seen, to devastating floods, years long drought and the once in a lifetime COVID-19, it is without doubt that this year was “unprecedented”.
However, what we know is that without your support, without the support of our terrific clients and without the support and phenomenal resilience of our wonderful staff, subcontractors and suppliers, it could have been a whole lot worse. This is the team spirit and family values we try to engender at Horizon, and this year it was none more so evident in what we were able to accomplish together.
For this we say THANK YOU.
We are not only proud of the building projects, the renovations & additions and the advisory services our team have provided this year, but also the countless volunteer hours we have put into projects like Sunny’s Café at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and the support we have provided the Maccabi, Eastern Suburbs Bays and Junior Beasties Rugby clubs.

This year with the added complexities of COVID SAFE protocols we managed to attend to your every need. We kept the doors open every single day of the year (more than a few days from home), and are proud to say we did not need to let any staff go, ensuring all of our team can relax a little easier over this Summer break. We also know that we will be back in 2021, stronger and more determined having gone through this crazy experience.
The majority of our team will be taking a well-deserved break from Thursday 24th December and will return to the office on Monday 18th January 2021, however you can still contact us here and leave a message.

Every project is a prototype!
Having an average of ten projects on the go at any time for the last thirty years or so has enable us to accumulate a knowledge base learned from literally hundreds of projects. We’ve made more mistakes than I care to think of, but importantly we’ve learned from them all, and our clients now get the benefit of that experience and expertise, and the systems and processes that are a direct result. We have also built a network of subcontractors and suppliers that are the best in their chosen field along the way, so we can leverage of their experience as well in their specific niche.
It’s a powerful combination!
It’s a safe bet that we can say “We’ve done that before” in almost every situation that we are presented. We have used every material you can imagine for structures, finishes, roofs etc. We have held up buildings in mid-air whilst digging beneath, and can even say we’ve built under water!
Having said that, the irony is that even though we may look at a project and understand that every part of the scope we’ve done before, we have never done this exact project before. The combination of the scope, the site conditions, the design team, the foreman and project manager, the subcontractors and how it all goes together is a unique blend, and never been done before. One that needs to be planned and managed very carefully to produce the desired outcome for all involved.
But one thing is for certain – having done all of the individual parts before sure gives us a great head start!

2020 NSW Master Builders Awards
We were delighted to be awarded at the recent MBA NSW Excellence in Housing Awards for our Darling Point Duplex project completed at the beginning of this year.
We were also humbled to be named as one of three finalists in the Master Builder of the Year for the second year in a row, the most prestigious award of the night – and a title we held after the 2017 Awards night.
It was a tremendous honour to have won our 16th & 17th awards in the last ten years – a sign that we are producing the highest quality homes year in, year out. Delivering project like these are only able to be delivered with systems and processes and staff and subcontractors accummulated over many years and hundreds of projects.
It’s a great reward for our entire team, and we’re very grateful to all our clients and supporters that put their trust in us to deliver them their dream homes.

Under Construction
We are just about done at our Bellevue Hill Residence XI in collaboration with Zoe Smorgon Design. It has been an exciting project, and we look forward to sharing some more images of the completed project early in the new year!
